Greater Than and Smart Eye tackle crash risks through advanced driver monitoring

Greater Than, a global provider of risk intelligence for road safety and climate impact, has partnered with Smart Eye AB, the industry leader in Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS).

The collaboration aims to revolutionise driver safety by integrating risk analytics and driver monitoring technology.

The partnership’s primary goal is to deepen the understanding of driver risk and enhance vehicle safety systems. By combining Greater Than’s risk intelligence with Smart Eye’s advanced DMS technology, the initiative seeks to develop solutions that improve the safety and efficiency of in-cabin AI systems.

Smart Eye, which holds over 40% of the global market share in DMS, specialises in creating AI-driven solutions that monitor driver behaviour. Their technology is widely used by automakers, including Nissan, GM, and BMW.

Greater Than, on the other hand, has over 20 years of experience leveraging AI and real-world data to predict crash probability and climate impact. The company serves clients across insurance, fleet, mobility, and automotive sectors.

The research project will use Smart Eye’s AIS system, a driver support solution designed for small-volume OEMs and fleet vehicles. This technology will track behaviours such as fatigue and distraction, while Greater Than’s predictive risk analytics will process the data to refine safety systems. The collaboration will also explore the correlation between Advanced Driver Distraction Warning (ADDW) alerts, driver behaviour, and crash probability.

Johanna Forseke, chief business officer and deputy CEO at Greater Than said, “This collaboration will facilitate valuable research that has the potential to transform the driver experience and save lives. By understanding driver behavior, and the effects that safety warnings have on risk level, this partnership will be revolutionary to the future of cabin monitoring technology and the management of global road safety.”

Magnus Brunzell, VP of AIS, Smart Eye said, “At Smart Eye, we are dedicated to transforming how vehicles understand and respond to human behavior.

“This partnership with Greater Than allows us to combine our expertise in Driver Monitoring Systems with their advanced risk intelligence to create a safer driving environment. By integrating predictive crash analytics with real-time behavioral monitoring, we are pushing the boundaries of what in-cabin AI systems can achieve.”
