OpenOrigins secures $4.5m to combat AI deepfakes with blockchain tech

OpenOrigins, the startup redefining trust in digital media, has secured a significant $4.5m in seed funding.

Leading the investment round were Galaxy Interactive and Galaxy Ventures, along with support from existing backer Unbound, a globally recognized investment firm spearheaded by Shravin Bharti Mittal.

OpenOrigins is known for its pioneering blockchain technology designed to certify the authenticity of digital content, offering a scalable solution amidst the rapid proliferation of AI-generated content.

The investment will drive OpenOrigins’ global expansion as it aims to scale its media authenticity platform. This initiative promises to restore faith in visual content at a time when distinguishing real from synthetic media is becoming increasingly challenging. OpenOrigins provides a decentralized system for anchoring and authenticating digital content, leveraging blockchain technology to ensure the provenance of media.

The insurance sector can leverage OpenOrigins’ technology to secure claims processes to reduce fraudulent claims. Through 3D depth capture, it boasts complete analysis of any incident without physical inspection, it said.

Ari Abelson, co-founder of OpenOrigins, emphasized the critical need for their technology: “”We are seeing fabricated content threaten our trust in information ecosystems, destabilize political environments and rapidly increase corporate fraud. Without an immutable mechanism to prove the authenticity of content, the internet will become a collective fiction, where people can’t believe anything they see. Now is the time to safeguard non-synthetic content, establishing provable provenance, so we can share our stories, and always be believed.”
