The development could give insurers a more detailed view of cyber exposure by allowing KYND to assess whether identified vulnerabilities can actually be exploited. The cyber risk analytics provider said this could give underwriters, brokers and reinsurers additional information to consider when pricing risks and assessing portfolios.
KYND already identifies potential weaknesses including open ports, unpatched systems and misconfigurations. Through its access to Anthropic’s AI models, the company can now investigate the exploitability of those vulnerabilities, moving its analysis beyond identifying where an organisation may be exposed.
The company intends to carry out this testing at scale, with the aim of helping insurers distinguish between vulnerabilities that indicate potential exposure and those that could represent a more significant threat. This could give insurance teams another source of information when assessing cyber risk across individual organisations and portfolios.
The capability comes through Anthropic’s Cyber Verification Programme, which provides approved organisations with access to its AI models for legitimate defensive research. Applications are subject to review by Anthropic, while prohibited uses remain restricted regardless of an organisation’s verification status.
The programme addresses a challenge facing defensive cybersecurity research, where AI systems can sometimes restrict legitimate requests because they cannot establish whether a user intends to use their capabilities defensively or maliciously. KYND’s participation gives it access to AI capabilities for its stated cyber risk assessment work.
For cyber insurers, the significance lies in the potential to add exploitability testing to existing risk analysis. Rather than stopping at the identification of a vulnerability, KYND can investigate whether that weakness can be demonstrated as exploitable, providing further information for insurance professionals assessing cyber exposure.
KYND product leader Cosmin Elefterescu said, “Anyone who has done serious defensive research knows the frustration of an AI model declining a legitimate request because it cannot tell a defender’s intent from a bad actor’s. Through verification, we remove that obstacle. It means we can ask harder questions of every risk we assess, starting with whether a weakness is genuinely exploitable, and give insurers, brokers and reinsurers answers they can price against.”
Elefterescu also commented, “At KYND, our mission has always been to make complex cyber risk easier to see, understand and manage. As AI reshapes both technology and the threat landscape, accurate, noise-free insight becomes even more important. Being part of this programme helps us deliver exactly that, enabling our partners and their clients to stay ahead of evolving cyber risk with greater visibility and confidence.”
