Feather, a Berlin-based InsurTech startup, has appointed Eloi Lanthiez as Country Launcher for France, as it looks to drive growth in the region and across Europe.

Lanthiez will be responsible for leading Feather’s digital insurance services for expatriates in France, as the company seeks to deepen its foothold in one of Europe’s most active insurance markets, according to FF News.

Feather, known for providing digital-first insurance solutions to expatriates, aims to simplify the complexities of local insurance systems.

Its mission is to deliver clarity and ease for foreigners navigating healthcare and protection options when relocating. Currently active in multiple countries, the company is rapidly expanding across Europe.

The firm currently offers expat health insurance, travel health insurance and life insurance in France, with plans to launch private health and home insurance soon.

Feather has been officially accredited by Orias to operate as an insurance broker in the French market. France, one of the top destinations for global expats, hosted approximately 5.6m long-term or permanent foreign residents in 2023, including around 170,000 British nationals.

In his new role, Eloi Lanthiez will be tasked with driving Feather’s growth in France by building strong relationships with risk carriers and forging partnerships that enhance customer acquisition.

His remit also includes ensuring the firm delivers a robust product offering tailored to the unique needs of expats.

Lanthiez brings significant industry experience, having transitioned from consulting into the startup ecosystem. Notably, he served as Head of Go-to-Market at Embea, an embedded life insurance provider, and was formerly CEO for France at Mutumutu.

The latest appointment follows the hiring of Jaime Sanz Alvarez to lead operations in Spain. Earlier in 2024, Feather secured a $6m funding round to support its ambitious growth strategy, aiming to provide insurance continuity for expats relocating across European borders.

Feather CEO and co-founder Rob Schumacher said, “Eloi really gets insurance like few other people, having both launched an insurance company in France and headed up GTM for an embedded life insurer in Germany. I love working with him and know he’ll attract and build the kind of long lasting relationships we need to thrive with insurance partners. He’s going to play a huge role in the company’s expansion as we head further into Europe.”

Eloi Lanthiez said, “Feather has already dramatically improved the insurance experience for expats moving to Germany and I am motivated to match those results, spearheading the business’ move into France. Expats have enough admin on their plates when relocating, and dealing with a complex insurance system in a language you don’t know can be a real pain. Feather presents a fantastic opportunity for me to bring my go-to-market expertise to the business and build out the offering for customers in Europe.”
