WTW becomes official insurance partner of WSL Football

WTW, a leading global advisory, broking and solutions company, has become the official insurance partner of the Barclays Women’s Super League (BWSL) and BWSL2, marking the start of a new multi-year partnership with WSL Football.

The tie-up brings together two organisations that share a commitment to supporting people and shaping a stronger future. Throughout the partnership, WTW will work alongside WSL Football and clubs across both divisions to develop solutions aimed at supporting female athletes and advancing the sport. Central to this collaboration is a plan to co-create a bespoke insurance offering for players at BWSL and BWSL2 clubs, intended to change how they are protected and supported across their careers.

Although injuries remain an inherent part of football, women players can encounter distinct health considerations and risk factors compared with their male counterparts, and the case for tailored cover has grown stronger as the women’s game has expanded and become more professional. For players, suitable insurance can help safeguard their income and offer added financial stability should they suffer illness or injury, while for clubs, it can help protect the money invested in their squads.

WTW provides data-driven, insight-led solutions across people, risk and capital. Drawing on the international perspective and local knowledge of its colleagues in more than 140 countries and markets, the firm helps organisations refine strategy, strengthen organisational resilience, boost workforce performance and maximise value.

WSL Football is working to establish the most distinctive, competitive and entertaining women’s football club competition in the world for today’s and tomorrow’s players and supporters. Its competitions sit at the top of women’s professional football in England, where 26 clubs and some of the sport’s leading players compete across the Barclays Women’s Super League, Barclays Women’s Super League 2 and the Subway Players Cup.

WSL Football Chief Revenue Officer Zarah Al-Kudcy said, “Ensuring we have the right protection and support in place for players during their careers and for clubs is an important part of building a truly professional and sustainable game.

“Bringing on WTW as a new partner with specialist expertise, whose people-first approach aligns with our values, means that together we can explore new ways to address the specific needs of women footballers and help create a stronger future for players, clubs and the wider game.

“Like all our WSL Football partnerships, it is more than investment into the league, it is investment into the whole women’s football ecosystem and ensures that the infrastructure around the game continues to develop alongside it.”

WTW CEO Carl Hess said, “At WTW, our purpose is to transform tomorrows. We see this as the driving force behind everything we do — and it’s a vision shared by WSL Football.”
