Moonrock Drone Insurance, a leading managing general agent (MGA) specialising in drone insurance, has partnered with Hiscox, an A-rated insurer, to launch a new product for recreational and hobbyist drone pilots.
The partnership aims to fill a significant gap in the market by offering comprehensive and accessible insurance for hobby drone operators, according to InsurTech Insights.
With this product, Moonrock and Hiscox address a growing need for affordable protection in the recreational drone sector.

By backing this new Moonrock product, Hiscox ensures that hobbyist drone pilots receive reliable and comprehensive coverage, underscoring its commitment to innovation and excellence in specialised insurance.
The new insurance product provides coverage for drone equipment valued up to £15,000 and includes public liability insurance of up to £1m.
The policy safeguards against physical loss, accidental damage, theft, and “fly-aways,” and extends to indoor flights. Notably, the coverage is global, applying in countries including the USA and Canada.
Moonrock has revamped its website to provide a seamless customer experience. The site now allows hobbyist pilots to access the insurance directly, alongside improved functionality and resources about drone regulations.
Claims for the new policy will be managed by a dedicated Hiscox team, ensuring swift and efficient support.
Simon Ritterband, founder and managing director of Moonrock, emphasised the importance of accessible coverage, stating, “Drones can often be an expensive hobby and pilots must also consider the fact their drone might actually injure somebody or damage property. That’s why we believe it is essential to have the right protection in place.”
